Another chicken shop in Waltham Forest has been fined after inspectors made grisly discoveries on the premises.
Leytonstone’s Euro Chicken and Pizza was inspected by council food safety officers in January this year following a complaint from a resident.
On 1 July, company director Shahid Hussain pleaded guilty to eight offences at Thames Magistrates Court, bringing the financial penalty to £9266.
Inspectors had found Euro Chicken and Pizza to be covered in dirt and grease. Mouse droppings were found in food preparation areas, including the breading table where poultry was covered in flour before being fried.
The floor of the cold store was covered in dirty, wet cardboard and containers used to store salads were encrusted with old food deposits.
The shop itself was found to be in disrepair, with a leaking roof which led to plaster flaking off the wall. There was no hot water or paper towels at the wash hand basin in the toilet.
Hussain was personally fined £1,500 plus a £120 victim surcharge, while the company was fined £6,000 and ordered to pay costs of £1,526.
The business was given a zero hygiene rating, which means urgent improvement is necessary.
Resident with any concerns about hygiene in the borough can report a food safety issue online or call 020 8496 3000.
